“Up All Night with a Good Duke” is the first book in a new series “The Byronic Book Club” by Amy Rose Bennet and is a wonderfully written historical romance containing interesting, likable characters. It focuses on Artemis Jones, who is a lady of mixed birth trying to make a living by working as a teacher at a finishing school, while hoping secretly to find the sponsor of an influential and wealthy patroness so that she can open a college that accepts women. She is also the author of wicked novels that are quite well-known among the ladies of the town for their rather risqué content.
We then meet Dominic Winters, the widowed Duke of Dartmoor who is at his wit’s end navigating his teenaged daughter’s drama. He sets about to find a suitable woman for marriage in hopes that she will help him with his daughter.
What happens when fate throws Artemis and Dominic together? Both of them have been burnt by previous relationships — how does that affect the affection that develops between them? Will they be able to find a middle ground and get their hearts’ desires?
I loved the way Bennet illustrated the emotional progression between the two of them. It happens in an organic way, and the reader can’t help but root for them. Both Artemis and Dominic are sensible and thoughtful; their actions are always in tune with their characters and I absolutely loved them both. I particularly liked the clarity and definition Bennet had given to all her characters. She is a good find for me and I can’t wait to read more of her works.
This is a very well-written story and you should definitely check this out if you like to read lighthearted historical romances.
This book gets 5 out of 5 stars.
