The Heart Of Project Necromancer | “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” Season 3: Episode 12 “Juggernaut” Review

This week, we delve deeper into Project Necromancer, literally.

After turning herself in, Omega (Michelle Ang) is escorted into the heart of Mount Tantiss, where the force sensitive children we previously saw Emerie Karr (Keisha Castle-Hughes) tend to. We also see some friction between Karr and Dr. Hemlock (Jimmi Simpson), who view the children as test subjects only and property of the Empire.

Meanwhile, Hunter, Wrecker and Crosshair (all voiced by Dee Bradley Baker), with some help from Phee Genoa (Wanda Sykes), break former Vice Admiral Rampart (Noshir Dalal) out of a prison camp. Rampart supposedly knows where Tantiss is, and after Omega and Crosshair failed to install a tracker of any kind on her captor’s ship, he was the only lead they had.

The breakout essentially plays out like a kid playing with “Star Wars” toys, as Clone Force 99 hijacks a turbo tank while being pursued by gunships and an enemy turbo tank. It’s dumb fun, but that’s par for the course.

This is a pretty shallow but fun episode. It again falls into the classic “Star Wars” trap of being a fetch quest, which is a criticism most of the show falls victim to. In a galaxy as big as “Star Wars,” I know it’s hard to write a story that’s not “get thing A in order to get to thing B,” but it’s been done to death at this point and it severely damages the re-watchability of this show in the same way the reliance on MacGuffins hurt the sequel trilogy.

“Star Wars: The Bad Batch” Season 3: Episode 12 “Juggernaut” gets a 7/10

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
