Our Most-Read Movie And TV Show Reviews And Columns Of 2023

With 2023 wrapped up, here’s our most-read movie and TV show reviews and columns of the year.

5. A Masterful Redemption Tale That Transcends Its Kaiju Roots  |  “Godzilla Minus One” (2023) Movie Review

“Godzilla Minus One” is the antithesis of the modern superhero blockbuster. It’s grounded, it has great characters who are given full and fulfilling journeys and it looks incredibly sharp despite having a minuscule budget of less than $15 million.

4. “Star Wars” Has A Commander Cody Problem | Column from the Editor

An episode of “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” sees clone Commander Cody (Dee Bradley Baker) return to assist Crosshair (also voiced by Baker), only to defect when the Imperial governor they’re tasked with rescuing kills the legitimate leader of the planet they’re on after Cody carefully negotiated his release.

3. Not Anyone Can Wear Beskar | “Star Wars: The Mandalorian” Season 3: Episode 7 “The Spies” Review

After the prior episode’s celebrity cameo-filled affair, “The Mandalorian” needed to both get on track and set up the series finale this episode. Does it deliver? Read on to find out.

2. Aesthetically-Accurate Nonsense  |  “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” (2023) Movie Review

Illumination’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” serves as an unneeded origin story for Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day), who debut as struggling independent Italian plumbers in Brooklyn, N.Y., who spent most of their cash on a commercial for their business.

1. Another Great Multiversal Webslinging Tale | “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” (2023) Movie Review

This film fires on all cylinders — it has great voice acting, great characters and a very good central conflict — but I can’t help but feel like the studio is stretching one film into two just to increase revenue.
