Last year, I started watching “One Piece,” and I started documenting my journey getting through the show on InReview’s TikTok page. You can watch my previous batch of “One Piece” TikToks here.
This installment has been a long time coming; my last batch of updates was six months ago, in April. Since then, I’ve had a lot of changes, prime of which was moving to a new apartment. As I wrote in June when I announced that I was taking a break from the show, “One Piece” just took over my life and I wanted to watch other shows.
However, the quality of the anime adaptation of Punk Hazard also played a large role; it’s simply lousy from a pacing perspective. Its main villain, Caesar Clown, is also a generically evil and quite unimaginative character and its setting drastically lacks any of the personality the previous locations in the show have.
With that being said, I am so far enjoying Donquixote Doflamingo as the main antagonist in the Dressrosa Arc — he’s a diabolical man without honor who will expectedly get his comeuppance, and I am so far enjoying the gladiator tournament for Portgas D. Ace’s devil fruit.
Despite the long hiatus I’ve had from this series, I only made two TikTok updates about Punk Hazard; I just didn’t have much to say about this arc other than I didn’t like it. It was 46 episodes and it should have been no more than 10, though it pales in comparison to Dressrosa’s 118, which seems far too long for a major arc, and makes it the show’s longest except for Wano.
Going forward, these updates might be more sparse as I power through the lengthy arcs ahead. It is crystal clear that “One Piece” will need to have an official recut version like “Dragon Ball Z Kai” to make it more palatable and accessible to more people; I’m not sure how many more scenes of the Straw Hats running away or running in hallways I can take.
