If you liked episodes 1-3 of “Peacemaker”, episode 4 is more of the same. We don’t get a clear answer what butterflies are, but John Economos’ (Steve Agee) framing of August Smith (Robert Patrick) for the crimes of his son, Peacemaker (John Cena) comes to bite them in the butt this episode, as Peacemaker insists on visiting his dad in prison, against the advice of Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks).
Adebayo, who is acting on the orders of her boss, Clemson Murn (Chukwudi Iwuji), ends up suggestion to Vigilante (Freddie Stroma) that Peacemaker would be better off without his father, knowing that Peacemaker is going to tell his father everything, and his father is going to rat him out. Vigilante throws a trash can at a window in the prison and gets himself incarcerated, after which he starts a fight with August, but only manages to get August in trouble.
Murn orders Economos to get Vigilante out of prison, knowing that they’ve just broke Peacemaker’s trust, and that when he finds out, there’s now way for them to get it back. It’s only a matter of time before he finds out, with August serving as a ticking clock.
We learn a little more about Peacemaker this episode, as he deeply regrets killing Rick Flagg, whose last words were “Peacemaker. What a joke.” It’s also revealed that he had something to do with the death of his brother, but we don’t know exactly what he is.
As a middle episode, this one does slow the plot down a bit, as the most exciting thing that happens is a fight between Peacemaker and the captured Judomaster (Nhut Le) in a parking lot. But it’s not a bad middle episode, with everything from the first three episodes — the action, the crude humor, and silliness — present in this one.
