Honest Reviews. Sharp Takes. All Things Entertainment

Do you want a book that will get your blood pumping?

“Blood on the Stone” is the third book in the Anglesey series by Simon McCleave. We follow DI Laura Hart, who tells us about her life after the death of her husband 4 years ago — particularly her relationship with fellow detective Gareth.

Like in previous books, she also looks into her husband’s death.

This time around, Laura and her colleagues race against time in their efforts to find and capture the serial killer who is wreaking havoc in their small town. She also has to contend with a sudden investigation into the death of a witness in her husband’s case, in which she and a fellow detective might be considered suspects.

The investigation into the serial murders takes a turn when the suspect kidnaps people closest to Laura. The second half of the story thus becomes a cat-and-mouse chase between the police and the suspect, culminating in a charged countdown against time.

The story starts off strongly in a brisk pace which gets more thrilling as it moves further. One small problem I had with it is that we know who the suspect is almost before the first half of the book is over; that spoiled my interest to a degree.

Regardless, if you prefer high-octane action over the slower pace of more meticulous mysteries, this book might be for you.

This book still gets 5 out of 5 stars.
