“Lie to Her” is the sixth book in Melinda Leigh’s Bree Taggert series. I was impressed by her previous book in the same series, “Dead Against Her,” and the circumstances of the story. I particularly liked the way the Leigh put Bree in a complicated places, both mentally and in her investigation, that paid off in interesting ways.
This story starts off a couple of months after the events of the previous book with a killer targeting men from dating sites, particularly those that are very reprehensible. All evidences and explanations point to a scorned woman as the killer, particularly one who seems to harbor a grudge against both the victims. In her efforts to find the killer, Taggert must overcome many of the hang-ups she still holds owing to her previous experiences. How she manages to find the culprit and catch them comprises the rest of the story.
I liked this book a lot. To an extent, the identity of the killer was quite unexpected and I was completely hooked until it was revealed. I also loved to see how much Bree has progressed; her relationship with the investigator, Matt, was lovely to read. However, I felt the last set of events were drawn out unnecessarily and that is why I lost some interest by then. Nevertheless, this was still a very interesting story with very good character development.
I would definitely recommend this book to people who love to read solid police procedurals with deep characters and lovely romance.
This book gets 4 out of 5 stars.
