“A Duke’s Introduction to Courtship” is the second book in Sophie Barnes’ Gentlemen Authors series. As had been hinted in the first book, Brody Evans, Duke of Corwin, finds himself intrigued by Mr. Harry Michael, the lad who works in the publishing house Brody works at, and where he tries to get a book he and his friends wrote published.

However, in a strange turn of events, Brody finds himself attracted to Harry. Though initially disconcerted,  particularly because he had always been attracted to women, Brody begins to embrace the idea of accepting this new person in his life, despite of the threats acting on such feelings would incur.

What he doesn’t know is that Harry is actually Harriet Michael, a woman of the gentry, forced to take up employment in the publishing house after the sudden death of her father. This confusing and intriguing situation becomes the catalyst for a rather intriguing and entertaining story, with both of the leads having much to hide.

Barnes has managed to create a gripping story that is reminiscent of the “Twelfth Night” but still has some unique elements to it. In spite of all the preposterous situations involved, the reader can’t help but root for these lovely people to find a way to be together. Though mostly on point, the ending of the book was slightly jarring with respect to the mild conflict between Harriet and Brody. It felt very forced and affected the tone of the narrative. But that is only a minor complaint and otherwise the book was a great reading experience.
