Honest Reviews. Sharp Takes. All Things Entertainment

“Star Wars: The Bad Batch” has a habit of giving us some of the most insightful episodes into the world of “Star Wars” and immediately follow it up with an episode where absolutely nothing happens. With a ton happening in last week’s special dual-episode drop in which Emperor Palpatine twisted the Imperial Senate into greenlighting the stormtrooper project and Vice Admiral Rampart officially got his comeuppance, this week’s episode certainly fits that trend.

This week, the Bad Batch (all voiced by Dee Bradley Baker) and Omega (Michelle Ang) must travel to a mine Cid (Rhea Perlman) bought, down Echo, who officially left the group last episode in order to carry out an important mission with Rex. There, they must extract a valuable but highly explosive mineral called ipsium.

While the rest of the Bad Batch scout the mine, and Omega makes the extractions, Wrecker is put on watch, but fails to notice their ship getting hijacked before it takes off. With little options, they try to make their way to the nearest town as a dangerous storm approaches.

This episode is by design one where the Bad Batch do nothing for most of it and process Echo’s departure, which Omega is struggling with. And I mean this literally — after the storm, they make their way into another mine, where they find themselves caved in and forced to take a few moments to breath and think about their current situation.

The show tries to pull off a touching character moment between Tech — who upsets Omega due to his logical but cold approach to handling emotional situations — and Omega, but it never quite works and feels really forced.

Next episode might redeem this one, as we still don’t know who stole their ship or what they want or how the Bad Batch will make their way off this planet, but so far, this is easily the weakest episode of the season.
